Question by James P.: Do you think have the credentials to be a math tutor?
I’m a 20 year-old sophomore engineering student at a local college. I’m very good at math, especially understanding/explaining the why’s in addition to the how’s, and transfered college algebra credits from high school to college. I also tutored for two years in high school (one year in biology and the other in freshman algebra) and have completed up to analytic geometry/calc I with all A’s; I’m now taking calc II. I would love to tutor basic-intermediate algebra again and maybe supplement my income a little too. My concerns are: the length of time it’s been since I’ve taken basic algebra (I need to know this stuff inside and out), and credibility (I’m not worried about references so much as I am about showing my qualifications to parents who don’t understand mathematics). When I search for “math tutor certification”, way too many companies pop up. Is there a national tutor certification board? Or, those of you who are certified, which is the most well-regarded organization I can obtain something like this from? Thanks A Million : )

*I think you cvan definitely do it. If you like the subject and you already say you are good at it… and as someone in Calc 2 you can easily teach people basic algebra.

Undergraduate Writing In Psychology: Learning To Tell The Story

Mastering scientific writing will be especially important if you plan to go on to pursue a doctorate degree in psychology, no mater what the area of specialization, because these graduate programs emphasize research rather than clinical skills.

Some of the skills you can expect to learn is how to think like a scientist of human behavior. You will be walked through the process of how to conduct a literature review, how to conduct original research, and even how to analyze social policies. Regardless of the style of paper you have to write you will learn how to coherently tell a scientific study from planning and organization to how to use raw data to analyze results.

This is not to say that those skills you learned in English class won’t come in handy.
